Thank you John for your thoughtful response. I have just "kept" your post for a time when I have time to possibly go and actually at least review these books/articles.
I truly wish there was a group of people writing books/articles who:
1) Were not hating Bush before he even took office
and
2) Actually had access to documents that are important, but the classified parts taken out, that could give us an up to date view of what has happened, and how the situation could be improved.
I did review the reviews of your amazon link...both from the pro's, and also ones from the general reviewers.
When one of the reviewers mentioned Clarke as an authority on which he based anything, I shut down on his review.
But, maybe it would be worth it timewise, to actually see what these people would do if they were in charge.
In fact, it would be more than interesting to have a 3 hour town hall televised, maybe on CSPAN, that had commentators who were well versed in statecraft, not just politics, and not just bureaucracy. These would be people who are true patriots on ALL sides of the issues and who were knowledgeable about the facts and possibilities of the issues, to give us some additional items to think about.
And by that, I mean knowledgeable in real 'boots on the ground' knowledge, not in a publishing empire, nor in Universities, unless they had actually lived in the areas being discussed for several years. |
