Getting OpenOffice for free is amazing, and Firefox and Thunderbird. I actually contribute financially. Plug that into your mass generalization.

But for the rest -- it's a market matter. I *bought* the scanner, and it only comes with drivers for Windows. You are simply wrong when you say people wouldn't buy them -- they can't for the most part. There are packages you can piece together and try from "volunteers" but that hasn't been worth my time yet because I can do that with the Windows version I *bought*. Not with gold, but fiat currency <g> So plug that into your stereotype, too.

I wanted to buy other products for Linux but they aren't available -- Quicken and Turbo Tax to name a couple. The market just isn't there yet. When critical mass arrives it will become a relevant market for those big players.

And sure I could write drivers for Linux. But I have far more relevant things to do with my time at this stage of my life. I'm glad other don't <g>

Plus anybody wanting to do home wi-fi under Linux could just buy a wi-fi bridge and plug their NIC into it and voila, driverless wi-fi for about $70. Not as convenient for the local cafe, though.
