Howdy Brite Folks:
I had a meeting this AM with a prominent local voice telephony company here in Denver T Netix, they do voice authentication services for prisons, etc., and we're looking at using some of their technology to secure Internet sessions). Anyway, I asked them about Brite, whom they knew well, and they were generally pessimistic short-term based on two arguments:
1. Sprint is hyping PCS like Microsoft vs Netscape, looking for any potential partner in the world that can provide leverage to speedup PCS adoption, so being a Sprint PCS partner is in no way exclusive or a guarantee because many in the industry are betting that Spring PCS will be a very costly and slow roll out (much larger investment in cell density, incompatible handsets, etc.) but will probably ultimately be huge (like in 5-10 years). Net-Net, nothing quick or easy.
2. Prepaid smartcard type services have not achieved adoption in the US anywhere near what they have in Europe/Asia (a la Greece et al)and don't look for this to change with Sprint PCS, again, Net-Net, not quick or easy.
So, Crash, you've become our default cellular marketing wizard-guru, what's your take on this spin? Back to earning money the old fashioned way, for the long haul? Or can I tell my wife it's now okay to go buy that million-dollar diamond studded Wonderbra from Victoria's Secret with my short term capital gains from Brite (conspicuous consumption is a relative term).
