I was wondering how anyone could be so distracted as to not see stopped cars ahead and hit them at that speed. I can see getting distracted, spotting the obstacle, hitting the breaks hard but not in time to avoid hitting the stopped cars. But you'd have to be really distracted to hit them going full bore. Unless of course he had been going ninety and when he hit you he had already slowed down.

When I drive on the Beltway where traffic can go from eighty to a stop pretty quickly, I always check my mirror when I'm hitting my brakes to make sure the guy behind me is, too, and am prepared to bail out to the left shoulder if he isn't. That's one reason I almost always drive in the fast lane.

A situation like the one you experienced is freaky, but stuff happens. Glad you came out OK.
