You have an honest investment philosophy. Most people are not as rational as you.

I have never bought a lottery ticket. At payouts over 1.4 times the stated odds, if you assume that the "investor" would receive the whole jackpot undivided, then the one dollar ticket is an investment. When the jackpot gets over the stated odds, groups tend to attempt to syndicate a winner. Thus "investors" who are the recipient(s) of the outsized investment returns, tend to have to split the payoff.

I personally prefer the predictably unpredictable returns in the stock market. When I am lucky, I can substantially outperform the market. Other times, I substantially underperform the market.
