I have done adequately with my investment philosophy. My trading account is up over 33% in the last 13 months. OTOH the bubble burst was very humbling. A 33% gain can be erased in very short order. My EMC investment was valued over 12 times my investment. I did manage to escape with a 120% gain over several years. If I had followed my gut and rebalanced at the peak, when EMC was valued at around 30% of the portfolio... (Are those violins in the background?

I often sell stocks after a nice run, and miss whole additional leaps. I just closed out a 25% short term gain in FDRY because it had a nice run, the company is not doing that well, and it was a small investment based on a analyst recommendation.

One technique is trying to dump anything before the losses mount. I have lost so much in so many securities over the years by hanging on to get my investment back. That is now rarely a problem.
