I'm not even convinced that the majority of Israelis think it's Israel first any longer. As I understand it, the Israelis are generally more liberal than their American Jewish brethren (including Lieberman of course) while their government has scooted off to the rightwing...along with ours.

So when the people of both countries are more liberal than their government...what's a government to do but spy on everyone?

The News Hour did a long piece on the Hamas win and did a pretty good job. Hamas comes out looking more rational than the nervous nellies. After all, they have to govern and provide services and the like while the Israelis and everyone else makes their situation as difficult and tenuous as possible.

It still begs the question, the Palestinians voted for jobs and services and a decent life without the corruption of the last generation. Why in the world would that be more frightening to the West and to Israel than what went before?

They want jobs? Shame on them. They want garbage pickup? That's too radical.

It's ridiculous. Give them the aid, provide them jobs and see if Hamas can do something to make their people have hope for a good future.
