Thanks for your replies re imaging. You confirmed my suspicions. My photo files are just shy of 100GB, hence the dedicated external backup drive. DVD backup is something I have wanted to do, but never seem to find the time nor have I wanted to pay for DVDs of high enough quality to ensure long-term storage viability. Multiple hard drives seem cheaper. Also, many of my photos are processed jpegs. Deleting or transferring and recopying .jpg files is not a good idea because each copy reduces the quality of the image additively.

If I can image one partition without imaging others, that might solve my problem. I remember years ago that one couldn't create a partition without reformatting the drive, thereby destroying all info on the drive. I seem to recall using Partition Magic later to avoid that problem. Are there good programs out there that will create a partition without destroying data?... on a RAID 0 drive?
