The only Senate opposition to Bernanke came from long-time Greenspan critic Jim Bunning, R-Ky., who requested that he be recorded as opposing the nomination.
...
Bunning, in a floor speech, criticized Bernanke for not dissenting with Greenspan on rate hikes during his previous tenure as a member of the Fed's board of governors. Bunning questioned whether Bernanke would be willing to stand up to the White House or the news media as the Fed sets future policy.

"Not once did Dr. Bernanke vote against Chairman Greenspan. I don't think that's independence. I think that's groupthink," Bunning said.
