i've traded both of them with some success. i was in swks but right before earnings came out i was lucky enough to read a report that predicted rfmd was taking share from swks and switched... here it is from 1/24 post of new economy thread

"...RFMD RF Micro Device earnings preview (6.32 -0.03)

RFMD is expected to report Q3 results today after the close, with analysts expecting EPS of $0.07 and revs of $209.43 mln...AmTech says that based on their checks, they believe the co is booked solidly going into the Mar Q. They expect that continued wireless industry growth going into 2006 and expansion into NOK with a radio design win should provide tailwind for the co throughout CY06. They believe the guidance could be down 3-6% as opposed to down 5-10%...Jefferies says that they believe there are excessively high expectations for the Dec Q and Mar Q. They project an in-line Dec Q and a Mar Q that may not meet expectations. Their checks into the Asian module assemblers and passive component distributors indicate a strong finish to the Dec Q. However, their rev projection of $209 mln is only in the middle of the co guidance range of $205 mln-$212 mln. They think expectations for the Dec Q are much higher than current guidance...Morgan Keegan is very comfortable with the co's ability to meet their est of $0.07 on $208 mln based on strength in the POLARIS platform and recent traction at MOT. They believe that the co is likely to experience less than normal seasonality (down 8-10%) during the Mar Q again given continued traction at MOT where they believe the co is taking share from Skyworks and has been designed into several of the new handset GSM/GPRS phone platforms.....
