Welcome FiloF:

With regards to Merck. Back when I posted your second link. I regard this as a key statement.
>"Longer-term, we heard for the first time of the potential for how Merck could even envision itself as a company with businesses beyond pure pharma (pharmaceuticals), to include devices (implantable) and diagnostics as well," Shibutani said in a research note.

I was very surprised to see from Merck. A PR with an interest in medical devices. This when BMS -(Zimmer) and Lilly (Guidant) decided to leave the field years ago. As you know there is plenty of competition hunting in this area.
With J & J currently out of the race for Guidant. I feel medical devices is still a hot area of speculation. I feel your approach is a good one. Some other areas to look in your search are 13d filings among companies Merck already has stakes in. Questions to ask yourself. Are they increasing or decreasing with those filings. Are there any standstill agreements, or milestone payments with collaborators, board members, ect ect. The more defined your search, the better off you will be. I've not look in depth with Merck yet, but remember. That's why I keep a list! So far J & J is the focus on my radar. No I'm not buying St. Jude. <G>I missed with Closer Medical. It was on my watch list. I'll look at Merck more in depth. I will post my findings when done. Maybe we will have some overlap. <G>
