Hi Energyplay,
Iranians know that as Shiites they are subject to oppression in the mainly Sunni Moslem world. This engenders resentment and a feeling of powerlessness. They feel even worse resentment at the establishment of the state of Israel(by the US, Britain and Stalin at the UN) which they view as the beachhead of the infidels on their path to dominating the Middle East. Moslems everywhere grit their teeth when they see photos of atrocities by the Israeli army. (Atrocities by Moslems don't get too much attention, are excused etc.) They also view Palestine as a holy place second only to Mecca etc. Europe is not a holy place to them. There's no such propaganda for converting Europe by force.
In my opinion, stupid Bush lost a wonderful chance to get Iran on his side against Sadaam. Instead he lumped Sadaam and Iran together with North Korea as enemies. The trial of Sadaam doesn't even mention his crimes against Iran.
