What worries me about the fossil fuel/global warming material I'm now beginning to read is that some researchers are beginning to look at the argument that the window is closed or very, very close to closing. That is, most researchers (and I think Kolbert's book will reflect this perspective) apparently argue that we need to get working on this soon because the window of opportunity is closing. And the time given is multiple decades.

But more recently I've begun to read arguments that we are approaching the "tipping point" faster than anticipated. That is, the point at which the effects are not reversible.
