Hi Bob,

As Cisco and Tonto have already mentioned, any losses Bandai will see right now are almost certainly from the failed Pippin project. I don't think those losses will make overall losses for the company, though. The better-than-expected Tamagotchi sales should provide enough earnings to smooth out the Pippin losses. I don't remember hearing of any losses in their other product lines, so hopefully the Pippin and the failed merger with Sega are the only bad bews items for Bandai this year.

Thank you for reminding us that not all is rosy about this company and that we would be wise to keep the Tamagotchi success in perspective. Bandai's story is not a simple one to understand, especially when it is so hard to find current information about it.

Here are some news stories that My Yahoo showed yesterday (just to prove me a liar when I said it never posts news stories about Bandai :-)):

yahoo.com
This is a story with more details about The Tamagotchi Channel, one of 50 new "live channels" viewable with Microsoft's upcoming release of IE. This channel is a collaboration between Bandai and 7th Level.

biz.yahoo.com
This is a story about Bandai's higher estimates (about 40% higher) of it's annual profits for the year ending 3/98. I think the actual figures were posted in an earlier article here.
