letting the worker and the company decide That is a fundamentally unequal decision in general, especially when there are many laws promoting business associations and many more limiting worker associations. I think the previous attempt to reconcile this problem (an advesarial relationship between unions and management) was not productive to either side. It is an issue that needs solving if our country is not to degrade toward banana-republic divisions. TP
