but a heavy bias toward unequal outcomes should not be in the very form of the reward.

The whole idea of equal opportunity is that you work on the opportunity end of it, not the outcome/reward end. You try to assure equal opportunity and then let the chips fall where they may.

You are focused on the outcome end of it and you're entitled to favor that approach, but you can't legitimately frame it as equal opportunity because it isn't.
