I don't know why everybody keeps forgetting -- the point wasn't to take out Saddam or anything of a sort: it was to occupy Iraq and create a stronghold in the Middle East; not to steal oil, but to control oil/energy supplies. That was the basis for the invasion as laid out before Clinton (who refused) and later Bush (who accepted) by the Project for a New American Century. That is why there will not be a complete withdrawal until we are bankrupted or those factions within our own gov't are driven from power. The point was to get there and stay there. That's why you can't get anybody in the administration to say it was a mistake or failure despite "discovery" of falsified intelligence -- the fabrications gave the sheeple and press-sheeple reasons they could accept. Since the real agenda is completely different and independent of that "intelligence," revelations about that intelligence, costs of the war, etc. have no bearing on the perceived desire to be there, which appears to be "at any cost."

I believe that within a decade, the hubris of this administration and of the people that think of gov't as God will regret their blind faith because of how the choices have circled around to take a big bite out of their quality of life. But chances are they will never connect the dots -- there will be *something* to blame it on at that time, and that scapegoat or act-of-God will be embraced rather than looking in the mirror and admitting that we are the problem.
