Paul,
Have your beneficiary in the Philippines establish a regular passbook account in BPI Bank (Bank of the Philippine Islands). This needs to be a regular BPI commercial bank, not "BPI Family Bank" which I don't think allows overseas remittances. Most provincial cities of any size have one.

Then you mail your remittance to BPI Express Remittance in California. After 9-11 they require cashiers checks and limit each remittance to a max of $1,000 unless they have changed. Years ago when I lived over there I just mailed a personal check on a US bank to the California office and then in a few days the balance would appear in my BPI peso account over there. Moved some pretty big amounts buying property that way. Don't guess you could do that now. Cheaper than wire transfers and very private and safe. BPI is a very good bank and I still have an account with them, even a brokerage account.

You need to call the BPI California office (1-800-404-2743)and get your US remittance forms.

Several other banks, PCI, PNB and I think Far East Bank have a similar program but I really like BPI.

Where is your wife from? I really miss the place, lived in Manila a while and also in Mindanao. The Coconut Republic is a crazy place.
