Thomas; I do not use my Apple much, but I would like to see them do some prospering after the long hiatus.
MSFT now has to try to advance on many fronts. The convergence of Win NT, the Browser and win 95-8 to a single product in the year 2000 will be their plan. And let the rest trickle in and only one product will go forth from that point. I would imagine that NT server will differ, bbut all the others can converge. There are lots of used cars out there as Gates is finding out. I wonder if he will start to make software with a mandated annual fee to keep it alive, like a cat that eats once a year? Lots of large system software is like that, and if he puts in an annual fee based upgrade he could suck in a lot of money as long as the fee was reasonable for what you got extra. What an outcry of rage if he did that, but with almost everyone on line accessable he could do it and get away with it if he imbedded the logic starting about now, and then announced it later that all versions of Win 95 would fail to work after XX date. Be interesting to automatically clock win95 forward for 2-3 years to see what hidden stuff is there. He may have made it so you must go day by day, and not just jump to 1999 so it would be hard to find with a fast test. Interesting eh?
What could you do? I suppose he should ahev put a time limit in the license, but he could have that in the initial startup screen, with a caveat subject to change etc etc.
All worried now??
