Slider,

I couldn't disagree with you more;

Crude Oil inventory and supply levels -- also into the face of the refilling the US Strategic Petroleum Reserves and the direct hit of Hurricaines Rita & Katrina remain at levels supporting prices exponentially lower than today's Peak-Oil Charade & Speculator Induced levels

Thank Europe for refilling US reserves.

Iraq is not about oil, perhaps its the US vs. the UN

Submitted to congress September 2002 The National Security Strategy of the United States The United States will not hesitate to strike preemptively against its enemies, and will never again allow its military supremacy to be challenged . If you understand the UN charter, you will realize what a huge shot across the bow this is.

9/11, as tragic as it was, opened an unexpected crack for powers within to assert US destiny and undermine the UN. Bush is no doubt in the clutches of big oil, but to assert Iraq is about Big Oil is missing the wider picture. Maybe Iraq is the first step to cement US as the world's policeman....damn the UN.

re: peak oil, the Kuwait Oil Company just revealed its Burgan field is exhausted and past peak output, the world's 2nd largest oilfield. Official country reserves have been slashed in half....who's next? maybe, just maybe Simmons is not an idiot.
