I just had a vent conversation with a friend who lives this issue who makes the point some of us have made here before and will undoubtedly have to again: 
    Before Bush, there NEVER was ANY federal funding for 
    embryonic stem cell research AT ALL. Far from cutting it 
    off, he was the first to make it available, though he 
    didn't make it available indiscriminately but rather in a 
    way that comported with the law and with the principle 
    behind the law: that taxpayer funding should not 
    encourage or support the destruction of life.
