small specs have been short CL since June 2004 (i.e., the have been losing money for 20 months now). it is always funny when geniuses like Lance Lewis blame the rise in crude on speculators who have been net short the entire ride. but they just went net long. large specs spend about half the year short and half long. they were short from early Sept, then went flat at the beginning of the year and are also net long. magnitudewise the commercial short position is still quite small, compared to last April.
