"In my opinion, stupid Bush lost a wonderful chance to get Iran on his side against Sadaam. Instead he lumped Sadaam and Iran together with North Korea as enemies."

I agree 100%. I really expected that post 9-11 there would be a change in US-Iran relations, and as I recall there were some encouraging noises from Iran. The US missed a great opportunity, in my opinion. Was it stupidity, or was it a deliberate and thought-out policy? Putting yourself in the Iranian's shoes, how would you see it? My guess is that they interpreted US statements as clear signs of aggressive intentions towards Iran. After the invasion of Iraq it would have been easy for them to see that they might be next, and therefore to take appropriate steps to defend themselves.
