I don't read every post and diary at Daily Kos, but my sense of what the Kossacks want from Dem candidates is that they stand up and act like the Opposition Party, which is reasonable and desirable, IMHO.
I would also point out that the Center ain't where it used to be, so even if they are pulling the party leftward, it is more like a brake on the rightward tilt than a move to the left fringe.
Wherever the center happens to be, democratic elections in a two-party system demand that you get it to vote for you - that is, if you want to win elections. That is simple necessity.
I don't read much of Kos either, but whenever I do, I am struck by its strident and often immature tone, and its total focus on partisanship, to the exclusion of anything that you could call a platform. Acting like an Opposition Party is all very well, but not if opposing for the sake of opposition is your be-all and end-all. To get back into power, you generally need to be FOR something.
Like Bush or hate him, I think it's pretty clear what he's for. Can you say that about the Democrats? |
