Mezz > All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. In fact, it goes further than that today. Draw a cartoon of the Prophet Mohammed, especially in an unflattering situation, and every Muslim everywhere is incensed and many are incited to riot. Publicly argue that six million Jews didn't die in the Holocaust and it's a mandatory jail sentence for you in many countries because that's now called a hate crime. These days, the danger, or perceived danger, need not even be real to an individual or the nation. It only has to be considered a threat to someone's carefully nurtured fantasies, ideas or beliefs and that is enough for the "transgressor" to be criminalized or victimized. As religious fundamentalism disguised as democracy takes over, freedom of speech becomes the illusion -- a relic of past days -- as are other so-called freedoms of the individual. Wherever one turns, liberty is under attack -- and the people don't even know it -- or, if they do, they don't care.
