Mish you said on Cspan we cant keep funding all these bases all over - we dont need them - I agree - not just overseas but here in the states too, however when sam nunn was putting bases all over GA - it gave lots of poor ga rednecks jobs thank to those NY taxes (hehe) and lots of them get scared when base realignment and closure groups want to shut down a source of the local economy and jobs - my redneck friends in some military towns are gonna feel some pain when those bases get closed in the states - like those 6000 boeing employees in Cali I posted about that will soon be laid off. anyways japan is not happy with airspace issues with our bases there and germany has no wall to defend anymore and such and they are our good buddies now and we dont have to keep them in military check - I have seen the trend go from moving bases from other areas like germany to establishing a presence in the middle east - to keep the region stable. Now my pop doesn't like this cause there will be less bases to house him if he visits germany - but anyways - I have heard UN generals from Canada tell me the VERY thing we do need to do to keep people from dying and kiling each other is establish bases and troops in chaotic murderous regions and I have posted on that before - not just the middle east - but south africa and such too - he held dying babies in his hand and all he needed to stop that chaos was a few thousand more western or UN troops to keep the chaotic killers at bay. So pull them out of the stable regions and inject them into unstable ones - we could share being the worlds police force with others like the UN was really supposed to do eh? Certainly you dont want the killing and chaos to continue in these parts of the world do you? He said he didnt need a lot of troops and it wouldn't cost a lot of money. We just need to have a presence there and some small bases to keep the thugs at bay that keep blowing stuff up and killing children. If they knew chuck norris was in thier back yard - they would not be so quick to violence and murder perhaps - the UN general was talking africa mostly. Now I have posted we have these robot drones and high tech auto sensing BFG rifles and such - we dont need the MANPOWER we needed before to keep the same military power - like other sectors of life - technology is replacing people. Second to your point on Iran blowing up ships in the straits - I just cant rationally believe that is going to happen - I have already posted we are sending warships, subs, airplanes over to that theater of war - hehe - if they blew up one ship I am quite convinced any naval power they have at all would be completely obliterated and many developed countries would support us in that endeavor. Our satellites and precision bombing would make what japan did to us in 1941 look infantile after we got through with their military power. Do you not agree? Third - you made that guy look like a fool on his centrifugal force theory of oil - but he did bring up the point about the moon of titan and all the methane gas there with no dinosaurs - what is your response? I am excited about the future of man mining the moon with moonbases and titan with robots - but like shale oil - that is a ways off - we need that black gold from the middle east for right now - hehe.
