I thought part of the reason that the American auto companies grew is that they were paying wages such that the employees could purchase the products they were manufacturing.

The automobiles may be available at lower prices but if wages are cut so drastically, and workers are now responsible for their own health benefits...then i wonder if these workers can afford to purchase a car ? it sounds like if the example you mention is repeated all through the country, the autoworkers and everyone else will only be able to afford to take the bus...

who will the slimmed down automakers sell to ?
