My own feeling is that conventional weapons will not destroy the equipment or stop the development

That's my view, too. But we really don't know, do we?

It might slow it down, but then what??

The real problem in my view is Pakistan. After a raid on Iran, failed or not, Pakistan and the rest of the Islamic world, would be rocked by unrest. If the current regime is unseated by Islamists, the Pakistani nukes might very well end up in the hands of fanatics. Unlike future Iranian nukes, whose delivery is problematical, Pakistani nukes are already shaped into deliverable warheads.

Denuclearization of the Islamists also needs that we control or destroy Pakistani nukes, something that I am not sure we can do.

The sad fact is that sooner or later, despite the West's best efforts, the fanatics will get their hands on a nuclear device. Whether they will be able to deliver it is another question.

We can thank our addiction to oil for this conundrum.
