Re Iran,

Students obviously support the new pres over there at least on the peaceful (g) use of nuke energy. Students can be so naive but i suspect they want the bomb too--and i can understand that nationalist urge This goes 180 degrees in the face of the old cw that the students wish for democracy somehow made them pro american in all aspects of fp. What we have is a race between irans acquisition of nukes and how long the mullocracy lasts. Thus all we can do is slow them down and hope they die before others do.
Some policy but i have yet to see a credible alternative that doesnt lead to a wave of terror. Israel of course has a different problem. They have to decide whether the mullahs will indeed trade tehran for telaviv. I am sure the students dont want to make that trade.
If israels preempts and iran has no other way to react they will turn hizbollah on israel and turn their international terrorists on the west. Any alternatives, other than a virus that selectively targets persians in turbans, seem to be counterproductive. Mike
