Bob, I've just given you a concrete case illustrating the limited value that we of a certain age can extract from SI....Maybe this will assist a reconsideration of the case I made to you and/or Dave long ago about the pricing of lifetime memberships for those of us obviously lifetime-challenged...LOL
We're both in the same boat in that regard. When presented with the option to get a Lifetime membership in the Audi club, I did the math and went for 5 years, instead. In my case, it's because I expect that I've only got about 10-15 usable track years left in me.
As for getting more value out of SI, I've recently had a change of heart/philosophy. As I'm sure you remember, when we acquired it, I immediately ditched a lot of non-messageboard content because I wanted to focus on my core compentency, which is message boards.
I/we have since decided, however, to work on more vertical expansion in this space. I was already starting to lean that way just a little bit, but what really struck a chord with me and both stings like hell and motivates whenever I think about it, is a recent review in which we were panned for having once been a "supersite" but not having that status anymore.
I'm actively working on getting high-quality news, quotes, charts, analysis, and commentary back into the mix. |
