There is substantial corollary evidence. It has been established from studies of heirs of the wealthy that efforts by parents to equalize the results of their children tend to enhance the differential results.

Parents who give child C a new Lexus because Child A bought a new Acura tend to reduce the motivation of child C. The more the parents try to equalize, the more pronounced the differences become.

When Peace Corps helps a village build a well and educates the youth, they are often helping. When they are feeding and providing stuff, they are most often hurting. IMHO
