We, as a nation, have historically faced down major threats to our existence; the WW II Axis, our own Civil War, war for independence, etc., without losing our respect for the rule of law, for the most part.


Nor have we yet. Yet Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus during the Civil War, citing the threat. Was that not a greater destruction of our civil liberties? Should Lincoln have been impeached?
