DC transmission of electrical energy has a lot going for it.

The UK and France have a power link that is HVDC. They sell electricity to us because they have many nuke power stations on line.

Can't see the USA HVDC link between the Hoover dam? and LA across the desert? I have looked up on it before and found loads of info. The USA went into HVDC during the 1960's if remember correctly, and that power line is still on line and been boosted to carry more current to handle demand.

Edison was brillient and a good dogged scientist in some respects, and had failings in other respects. Just like the rest of us I suppose. His electric chair idea for executions idea was most grusome.
