To quote Molly Ivin's advice to the Democrats on national security: Bush, Cheney and Co. will continue to play the patriotic bully card just as long as you let them. I've said it before: War brings out the patriotic bullies. In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were "German dogs." They did not, however, go around kicking German shepherds. The minute someone impugns your patriotism for opposing this war, turn on them like a snarling dog and explain what loving your country really means. Get that? There is no problem except for the Bush/Cheney exploitation of the problem for political advantage. It's just "the patriotic bully card." Nothing there that Democrats can't solve by just standing tall and pulling the troops out of Iraq. Gee, if that's the solution, there never was much of a real problem, was there? And it certainly sounds like Molly isn't worrying much about the problems that might be created by a sudden American pull-out, either. Because if she has any kind of a national security program to recommend, I must have missed it.
