The Soviet Union in no way resembles what is occurring to day with radical islam and islamic terrorists. The people of the Soviet Union wanted to live as did their leaders...this is not the case with radical islam.. There could well be millions upon millions of radical muslims who actually want to die in the belief they will be rewarded in some paradise for mass murder.... nothing like the old enemies the free world faced in the past. ...."6. Recognition thatUS occupying armies for the most part in this conflict seem to have a negative impact.".... Steve in what way is this negative? I see the US in Iraq and Afghanistan as a positive thing. It provides some hope for whatever moderate elements of islam reside in these countries...some hope for a country with elected government officials. It has brought out into the open just how very grave a threat radical islam presents to the free world. If Bush had done nothing...if the free world had tried to appease islam radicals as they have in the past 9/11 would have faded into distant memory and radical islam would become even more powerful than they are today.... consider an even more powerful radical islam, perhaps with nuke...radical islam who want to die with nukes. IMO The West is not near tough enough with radical islam..I believe they must be stopped with NO uncertain terms...they must understand they will lose. They are in every country in the world because we in the free world believe in freedom of religion...even if it kills us.
