What is crystal clear is that this NSA question is a perfect lens for seeing judgement. What does one see that is obvious and what are others blind to that is obvious to oneself. What one sees through a lens depends upon what one is open to seeing. The filter that gives one the opening is the ability to imagine possibilities. The ability to imagine is sometimes natural and other times from a past similar vision of experience.

The lens I use have these perspectives. One the question of who should the president consult with. How critical is keeping the secret? What have past leaders done with similar secrets.
Winston Churchill told who about enigma, the breaking of the German codes.
Roosevelt told how many Senators about the Manhattan project.

I believe we are at War with a entity that is called al qaeda.
I do believe they would attack America with nuclear, chemical or biological weapons if they had the opportunity. They are a direct threat to America and Americans.

In this war we give the military the right to bomb, shoot or otherwise kill any al qaeda.terrorist. Under the idea we allow the extreme sanction of killing based upon the considered threat posed, how can anyone question the need for secret intelligence gathering and the obvious legal logic that empowers the president to conduct it.

Others have questioned what was the damage done by the exposure of the very existence of the program. Well maybe I know and maybe I don't. But if I knew I would never say as saying would also give those who are the enemies of the US an understanding that they don't have now. And just as I have no idea how minds that break codes work, I am certain that minds different than mine can see things I don't see readily and some of those minds may be my enemy.

What I do know is that I have analyzed many systems in the past and seldom did I find a system that was not easy to fool once I knew a small subset of the logic in the system.
