Concord and ASND partner to deliver service level reporting
I wonder if this is old news..
9/17/97 - ASCEND: Concord and Ascend partner to deliver service level reporting for service provider networks
SEP 17, 1997, M2 Communications - Concord Communications and Ascend Communications today announced a partnership that will deliver Network Health - Ascend, Concord's best-in-class, Web-based reporting and analysis software, on Ascend's carrier-class Frame Relay switches. The partnership and resulting solution is the latest in Concord's initiative to expand its Network Health reporting and analysis capabilities to cover the broadest range of devices and platforms.
The two companies are making the announcement in conjunction with the launch today of Ascend's NavisXtend, a comprehensive set of distributed network management applications that align directly to service provider business operations. Network Health - Ascend works with NavisXtend Statistics Server (a Navis software application which gathers detailed Frame Relay network usage statistics) to automatically reflect changes in carrier services provided to end users. Network Health - Ascend was jointly developed by Concord and Ascend using the Navis open Application Programming Interface (API). It is the first reporting solution to enable service providers to easily implement service level reporting across their entire base of users.
"We are delighted to welcome Concord Communications as our first Navis Partners Program member. This program gives service providers a choice of value-added applications to extend the functionality of their core switch network management," said Pam Dodge, Ascend's director of product marketing, Network Management. "The Network Health integration highlights the ease and transparency of the Navis open API that is specifically designed to meet the third-party and legacy application demands of our service provider customers."
Network Health - Ascend provides automatic updates that are key to accurate service level reporting and streamlines the collection of data, minimizing needed bandwidth and reducing processing load. It also imports "provisioning information" from backbone switches detailing the level of service provided through each channel to a customer. In addition, it automatically generates end user service level reports that reflect the most current service agreement between the provider and the customer.
"We are excited by the opportunity to partner with Ascend," said Kevin Conklin, vice president of marketing at Concord Communications. "Our Network Health - LAN/WAN and Network Health - Frame Relay applications already are empowering large end users to effectively track and project usage of WAN and Internet services and existing resources and determine the appropriate level of service at the best price. The Concord/Ascend partnership balances the equation by enabling service providers to automatically report on the most current services delivered."
Targeted at value-added network management applications and hardware developers, Ascend's Navis Partners Program fosters co-development on new network management solutions between Ascend and third party developers. Ascend's customers benefit from the delivery of tightly coupled, value-added network management applications. Navis Partners, such as Concord, benefit from the increased exposure to the rapidly growing service provider market.
