I think you are giving the American papers too much credit. Muslims rioting in the streets are a bigger concern in Europe than they are in the US, especially in the wake of the Great French Car BBQ. Most European countries are uneasy about their Muslim populations, and so even peaceful demonstrations are going to get covered.
