Hi Murrey, nice to see you,
Well, I am generalizing (oh no!) from everyone I talk and write to and read, and all the polls people post, more than from the talking heads- to whom I don't listen. And I tend to get my news from Fox, which is in general supportive of the admin. I have very little respect for anything coming from within the beltway since the friends I have there seem to exist in a very different reality than I.
The polls are indicating a lot of questions about the process, or lack of it, and the balancing of security and privacy. We have a divided electorate on the subject, and it would make sense to me that when your presidency is beleaguered as Bush's is, with terrible numbers and a growing distrust (as indicated in the polls), then you don't dismiss something as important as this with that magisterial "we have the power". You answer the questions, you ask for change, you don't put on the mantle of absolute authority when that has been one of the most universal criticisms of this administration.
Not that the Dems have behaved with anything approaching rational, open discussion, imo. |
