You need to read the chapter in Hayek's book Road to Serfdom, where he explains why it is that those in power will always turn out to be bad, Why the Worst Get on Top .

The best you can do is create a government which limits the power of the government. That means reserving individual rights and freedoms. Everyone here seems hell bent in giving the government more power over their basic needs even though not a one of you thinks they can be trusted with the power they already have.
