I can contribute little to the analysis of the company -- however,
I have a very good feeling about their Amorphous Silicon Imager
products.

Some links, if you don't already have them __

varian.com

(San Jose Mercury)--
mercurycenter.com

Back in the 1960's we (in the FAA ) used high quality Varian vacuum
tubes in old US Navy navigational equipment. (It was called a TACAN)

Later, in the 70's & early 80's I read about Varians new high efficiency solar cells.

During that time, Mr Stanford R Ovshinsky of Energy Conversion
Devices (ENER) was often featured in articles about "Amorphous
Semiconductor" high efficiency solar cells. Not too long ago,
Popular Science apparently featured an article on "solar shingles".
( Thus my interest in the current Varian (amorphous silicon products )

Unfortunately ECD (now called Ovonic) has had to go to Japan and
Russia, for support for their research.

see ovonic.com

and ovonic.com

Also -- one of my sons works for MA/Com (a division of AMP).
This plant manufactures Galium Arsenide wafers.

A Varian "monster machine" is used to "dope" the wafers.
The equipment is old, but is continually updated with the latest
modifications from Varian.
If all companies follow this mode of operation -- Varian won't
sell many of these units.
