That is a rather interesting dichotomy. Fundamentalist are those of any religion who actually live their lives according to their beliefs.

Well, a fundamentalist will twist scientific fact in order to fit a book that was written in a language and mindset that could not understand the kinds of scientific discoveries we have made in the past 2000 years.

For example, Hebrew has an unorthodox manner in determining years.

Some have claimed that the "year of man equally a day of God" is the foundation for the belief that God created the heavens and earth over the course of 7,000 years.

But I would submit that Hebrew, or at least the mind of Moses as he attempted to interpret what God was telling him, could not fathom the idea of Billions of years, so he went with Days..

But now we've discovered Fossils, developed Carbon and magnetic dating, as well as plate tectonics. All of which Moses would not have been able to explain (and it was pretty irrelevant for his purposes).

If you are a strong supporter of religious belief, then you should not be surprised if some small fraction of those that believe, believe strongly enough to live accordingly.

Of course we shouldn't.. But outside of Robertson's crap about assassinating Chavez certainly is not the "christian" thing to do. Which is why I'm completely opposed to politicization of spiritual beliefs.

Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's, and render unto God what is God's. Fight our spiritual battles non-violently and with tolerance.

Because we're all VERY likely to be surprised when the day actually comes when we finally meet our "maker"..
