Ok, as the other response to your post here well shows, you've misrepresented what Bush had to say, as he did say about the same thing as Chirac. This fact is in total contradiction to the premise of your post.

However, while not fanning the flames is laudable in its place, by god it is completely ridiculous to cow tow to murderous idiots who can't take a joke, and who thereby prove the point of the jokes they decry. Therefore, I'd prefer it if Bush had taken a more cowboy-like stance than Chirac. He should have pointedly spoken to the fact that the violent reaction to the cartoons underscores what he's been saying about radical Islam all along. Somebody needs to keep leading the way in telling these folks how silly, ironically murderous, and unacceptably wrong they indeed are.
