"Publishers throughout Europe posted the cartoons after the Muslims began to riot. American papers did not. "

I think you are giving the American papers too much credit. Muslims rioting in the streets are a bigger concern in Europe than they are in the US, especially in the wake of the Great French Car BBQ. Most European countries are uneasy about their Muslim populations, and so even peaceful demonstrations are going to get covered.

I don't think I made my point clear. After the Danes ran into so much flack, other European publishers showed the cartoons in solidarity with the Danes to show defiance at attempts by Muslims to censor the Danish press. I was complaining that apparently, Americans did not share those sentiments since they did not publish the cartoons.
