I know all of that but in my view there are opportunities to separate our enemies. eg sino and soviets were both communist but they split up based on national interest. Here we have islamic interests, pan arab interests, shia interests, sunni interests and local pal interests. We should try to separate them from each other and untangle the web. If Hamas wants to be successful they need the west and they need peace. Even if they consider both to the be temporary, as time goes by the odds for peace get better. And maybe a Hamas deal will not have a sleaze like arafat to subvert it. Same with iran--they are the biggest danger but there future rests with the west as well. As i say to steve, its a long shot but as long as the US and Israel are vigilant, there isnt much to lose in trying. mike
