Yessum. Progressives HAVE to become the optimistic cheerleaders of the world. I've heard, but have never seen it firsthand, that you can go to a Republican meetup and be treated very nicely whereas a Democratic meetup is like high school and you have to pay dues in order to be acknowledged.

These are real problems in developing a constituency. Dems used to be hopeful about the future but that was 30 years ago. Nowadays it's just too much finger pointing without offering hopeful solutions (like universal healthcare or publicly funded campaigns in order to reduce taxes while raising services :) ) for us unwashed masses.
