"I note that you completely ignored my wonderful theory and merely talked more about the cliched greenhouse effect stuff we read so much about. Why so?"
I haven't answered your arguments for two reasons, first I didn't have the time or interest to look them up, and 2 I am to lazy to dig them out.
As to this post.
I see, your ideas are biased towards oil use. It certainly would help being paid a lot of money by BP to espouse ideas that would encourage oil use. Probably really helped if you could convince yourself they are right.
I have never seen anyone espouse your ideas either? Wonder why? Could it be that all of the worlds weather scientists are too stupid to understand them??? The world however will end in a ball of flames as the sun expands as a red giant, in it's death.
But then whats a few billion years, guess we should start worrying about that now.
"Thanks for that link explaining the simultaneous heating and freezing. I know the gulf stream is supposed to shut down any minute now, even though the propulsive forces are there in full force."
There are two major forces propelling the Gulf Stream, The Thermohaline effect drives the deep ocean return current basically through out the Atlantic, and even as far as to the central Pacific. The second is the wind. The wind at the equator is normally East to West, while at the higher latitudes above about 40 degrees North is West to East, note the common Hurricane path, travels west reaches the US and then turns east. Look at any map of Gulf Stream and you will see that it matches those wind flows with an offshoot Northward driven by the thermohaline mechanism. Salty Cold water sinks.
The major surface flow is in a circle (oval) East to West at the equator, and West to East at latitudes around 45 degrees that circles back to the equator on the African side of the Atlantic. This is wind driven and among other areas warms the Gulf of Mexico that the Gulf Stream is named for.
The thermohaline portion is shutting down, surface flow has decreased by 30%, the deep return current is decreasing by 75% according to the latest reports. As the northern offshoot supplies 100 trillion KW of heat to Europe in the Winter Summer doesn't matter as much as the sea surface temperature is similar to the air temp. West to East winds cross the winter ocean warming and carrying that warmth to Britain and Europe.
The thermohaline effect exists in three areas and is driven by the freezing of the ocean surface along with the fact that the North Atlantic is already quite salty. Ice gives up it's salt thus making the underlying water saltier, as it is also cold it becomes much denser than less salty warmer water that underlies is and it sinks to the ocean floor.
Two mechanisms can stop the thermohaline effect, increasing fresh water from Greenland ice melting, increased river flow from Russia's rivers feed by fast retreating glaciers, and increased rainfall in the North Atlantic. These effects cause desalination or more correctly dilution of the sea water. The other is the Sea Ice not forming thus not increasing the density of the water to the point it will sink.
Both mechanisms are present. One area of subduction is under the West Greenland Ice Shelf, Once an annual event that froze the sea from Greenland to Newfoundland, It partially formed in 1998 and is essentially nonexistent now. In those earlier days submarines recorded an average of 12 chimneys that transported the dense water to the ocean floor, the last survey found just 2 partially formed chimneys too weak to transport the dense water all the way to the ocean floor.
It is this flow from the three sink areas that is now reported to be reduced by 75%. The forces are not still there in full force.
"My theory is that ice ages start in a couple of years when the vegetative cover has dwindled towards the poles and deserts have increased in equatorial regions so much that reflection and absorption are no longer in balance and there's a cusp, with snow cover covering lots of greenery and water up north, which thereby makes it white and reflective instead of dark and absorptive."
You are partially correct, Ice ages start in less than decade (Greenland Ice Cores). The mechanism matching ice cores to seafloor cores, seems to be stopping of the Gulf Stream Flow Northward. Of course your theory could amplify the effect.
There are unexplained geologic evidences such as glaciers on the Peruvian plateau with warm temperature fresh plants frozen inside. Frozen Mastodons in Alaska, some with meat fresh enough it has been eaten. The Ice man discovered frozen in a Glacier in Switzerland. These all indicate near overnight switches in the climate. Not years, not months, not even weeks, but overnight.
"As CO2 concentrations increase in oceans, you'll find an increase in sea life, such as algal blooms, which feed on up the food chain. CO2 is the start of the food chain in the ocean too."
Sorry the evidence indicates that the ocean turns more acidic, Carbonic Acid H2CO3, this has the effect of dissolving the limestone shells of plankton, killing it and thus reducing not increasing the fertility of the ocean.
Your idea of fertilizing the ocean with iron however would be great if they would only try it. rusty old ships often leave a trail of plankton that lasts for weeks as they raise the iron level of the ocean slightly. Iron is the bottleneck restricting ocean fertility. I have read estimates that 3 tanker loads of Iron spread evenly over the Pacific would absorb much of the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, creating plankton that would die and sink to the ocean floor transporting the CO2 with them.
