Scoot, I figured I'd drag this from PM to here.
So is it going to be Yellowstone, or Grand Canyon? If you go to Yellowstone, you need to hook up with Gary the Piscatologist, he is in Sheriden, Wyo...he is a great guy. You two would hit it off very well. Sheriden is right by Custer's Last Stand Battlefield also, I bet your boys would be very interested in that. Great interpretive center there with a cool model of the battlefield.
We are going to Yellowstone. I booked the Grant Village Campground inside the park which is located at the southwest edge of Yellowstone Lake. They don't have any hook-ups for our pop-up trailer so I'll have to make certain I fill up the water tank at the last campground before we enter the park.
Tentatively our flexible itinerary is looking like this: Day 1 - Ohio (~12 hrs of travel with stops) Day 2 - Iowa (~9 hrs) Day 3 - Nebraska (~10 hrs) Day 4 - Lander Wyoming (~10 hrs) Days 5 - 11 Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park Days 12 - 13 Cody, Wy Days 14 - 15 Black Hills of SD, explore Rushmore, Badlands, Crazyhorse, etc. Day 16 - Minesota (~8 hrs) Day 17 - Illinois (~8 hrs) Day 18 - Home (~9 hrs)
I would be very interested in going fishing with Gary the Piscatologist. I wonder if he still lurks here.
I also need to find some good places to see along the way. If any one knows of any please let me know.
Custer State Park is on the list. As are Jackson Hole, Museum in Cody, Devils Tower, Wall Drugs, etc.
I'm in search of great trails to hike and fantastic sections of river to fly fish in Yellowstone and Tetons.
If anyone knows, tell me about it, please.
