(a) My original question was:

Are you saying an increase in the BOJ interest rate
caused gold to tank?
A yes or no w/o explanation will do.

I believe it will be bad for asset prices in general, stocks, commodities, etc. It likely will be bad for gold at least initially. It will likely be good for US treasuries

(b)
this line

the world currency has to belong to an economy that runs a strong trade deficit.
I strongly disagree with .... and I will just drop
this.
regards,
John McCarthy

I disagree as well as noted.
I think what he meant to say was....
"the world currency has to belong to the world leader in trade"

I agree with that idea.
Now if that is not what he meant then I disagree with him as well. The US used to run a surplus and it was the world's reserve currency. The US is the single biggest trading partner for much of the world. Where it is not the biggest it is probably high on the list. As long as that status holds, I do not see a threat. Down the road, China will indeed be a threat.
Things will change, slowly over time. I believe China is the worlds ascendent power. It might take a hundred years. Or it might be never. Things happen.
