The prayers are not the real problem. In a muslim world competition would all be required to do the same. Ingenious methods could be derived to sustain production during the prayers.

The crippling problems are:
They lack business ethics.
Investment is not rewarded.

Lack of reward for exceptional effort killed the communist experiment also.
